Let’s pretend we are going on a trip to beautiful Florence, Italy. Let’s observe and admire the paintings of Sandro Botticelli. After all, this is the first time some of his paintings are in exhibition in the United States thanks to a partnership between Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Uffizi Galleries.
Paintings and Drawings of Botticelli
Here your kids will see the splendor of Renaissance Florence where artists were patronized by the famous Medici family. The exhibition is composed of paintings and drawings by Sandro Botticelli (1445–1510), works by his teacher Fra Filippo Lippi, and other important painters of the vibrant Renaissance period (from the 14th century to the 17th century).
The colors in the paintings are bright and full of details that will have your kids using almost all their senses to do observations. Just to clarify, touching the art is not permitted like most museums. I have no doubt kids will follow with wonderful questions. The exhibit of Botticelli is a great way to introduce kids to the life of the artist as well as to teach them to appreciate the art of Florence. Kids will be curious about Florence. Don’t be surprised if they ask you to visit Florence someday!
“Civilizations are not remembered by their business people, their bankers or lawyers. They’re remembered by the arts.” — Eli Broad
Things to consider if you go:
Please check the Minneapolis Institute of Arts website for hours and tickets. Youth 17th and younger enter for free. October 16, 2022 – January 8, 2023
The exhibit has the right amount of art that will not bore some of our kids that don’t enjoy art. This can be a short and sweet visit for younger artists.
